Reasons to Ditch the Straw [Infographic]

At the beginning of July, we started giving away reusable silicone straws with every purchase. Within 15 days, we sent 2,000 reusable straws to people around the world.
This was something that we felt was super important to do for many different reasons, which can be seen in this infographic.
First, plastic straws can't be recycled. They're too small and light weight to make it through the process, so they all end up in our landfills, oceans and ecosystems. And they aren't biodegradable, meaning after 200 years, they'll break down into chemicals or residues.
Another reason is that the average person uses two straws a day, for only about 20 minutes each time. So, 20 minutes of sucking means 200 years in a landfill. About 500 single-use straws are used everyday. That's enough to wrap around the earth 2 and a half times. Sadly, by 2050, it's estimated that there will be more trash than fish in the ocean.
So, if the 2,000 reusable straws we sent out were used instead of plastic straws, over the course of the month, 120,000 plastic straws were kept out of our landfills and oceans. Let's keep this up - not just in July, but all year round.
Thank you to everyone who supported this cause, made a change, and skipped the straw.
