Take a Moment

Take a Moment

Nature is teeming with life and possibility. Birds are flitting about making nests. Bees are buzzing and butterflies are fluttering. It seems like new flowers bloom every day. The grass is the green of new growth. Buds are unraveling into splendid blossoms. First come the whites and subtle pinks. Then the land starts to pop with yellows and purples and all the colors of the rainbow.

Although all the wildlife is rushing around preparing for babies and new life, it is a great time to slow down and take a minute to enjoy the little things. Slow your pace on your next hike. Breath in the fresh air. Stop to watch a centipede busily meander across the path. Tune in to the bird’s song and try to discover the songster. Kiss a raindrop off of a flower petal. Dust the pollen off of a fresh new leaf. Scatter a dandelion wish on the winds. Turn and face the sunrise and let the rays play across your skin. Watch a day turn into night. Listen to the crickets chirp and the frogs croak. The record turns over as the day fades into night and the songs slowly change to those of an evening hum. Stand with your eyes towards the heavens and see if you can count all the stars.

Take a moment from your busy life to look at the world with the fresh eyes of spring. Nature is full of resources that many of us fight to protect on an ongoing basis. It is good to take a break from the fight to appreciate the wild’s intrinsic value. The beauty of a flower is worth saving for its beauty alone. That bird is worth protecting for the loveliness of its melodic song. Step out into the wilderness and enjoy the simple pleasure of knowing that these wild places still exist.
